Document summaryWater is under growing pressure both supply side and demand side with scarcity a global reality. There are long-term challenges and with no improvement in the efficiency of agricultural, industrial and residential water use, demand is projected to overshoot supply by 40% in the next 20 years, with 50% of the world’s population living under “water stress” conditions by 2030, with the potential for the supply/imbalance to manifest itself in increasing domestic social unrest and trans-boundary disputes. Despite the recession water is a US$500bn market today. Current global dynamics for water supply/demand mean the sector offers value chain growth opportunities. |
