Document summary

Recent proposals for nuclear phase-out in Germany and Switzerland mark a new era for a more sustainable energy future. China has recently raised solar capacity targets to 10 GW by 2015 and to 50GW by 2020 to diversify energy supply. Japan and the US may announce ambitious alternative energy targets shortly to reduce the tail risks from nuclear power. Alternative energy remains a growth story, underpinned by strong innovations and rising energy supply security and climate change issues. Long-term Credit Suisse expects sales in alternative energies to rise 51% to US$287bn by 2015 supported by stronger demand and innovations.
