Breakthrough technologies are needed to significantly reduce energy consumption and manage carbon output within the forest products industry. The industry needs to become more energy efficient, increase biomass use, replace fossil fuel with alternatives, supply sustainably produced wood and fibre, and recycle. Sustainably managed forests are the key strategy. Wood should be produced and used on a sustainable basis. Counterproductive policy impacts and technology barriers should be avoided.
