Document summary

Every year an average of 1200 tornadoes kill up to 60 people, injure 1,500 and cause at least $400m in economic damage in the US. This report looks analyses tornadoes in terms of risks, catastrophe losses, protection and detection as well as the potential link between climate change and tornado activity. As the process of urbanisation continues, the chances of a tornado hitting a densely populated area increase. In turn, increasing exposure means that aggregate losses from severe weather events are likely to increase and modelling the risk is becoming more important.
