Document summary
There is urgent need for large-scale financing to allow developing countries to mitigate and adapt to climate change, but there is a huge gap between current levels of climate change finance, around $8 billion per year, and even the conservative estimates by the World Bank for the amount required by developing countries, $90-$120 billion. Closing this gap was a key agenda item at the Climate Change Financing roundtable discussion, June 2010, the objectives being to assess investor appetite for climate change financing; identify innovative financial structures that could be applied to fund climate change projects; and examine risks/barriers preventing implementation.
