This report looks at food safety as a major consumer and social concern in China. Given political manoeuvring, food safety is likely to be even more important in 2012 and 2013 with greater downside risk to share prices for mismanagement. Companies can be significantly affected by reputational issues (e.g. through consumer boycotts) or by regulations ( e.g. through fines or factory closures). This Sustainalytics report looks at 37 Chinese-listed companies in the food value chain and provides background information on Chinese food safety regulators and regulations.
