Document summary

This report explores the status of 2°C finance i.e. capital allocation for the development (transition to) and provision (build out) of a low-carbon economy that minimises and is resilient to the impacts of climate change. The impacts of climate change are already being felt around the world. Failing to meet the 2°C target would mean even more unpalatable implications such as extreme heat waves, lower crop yields and risks to human support systems such as water availability. Tackling climate change through policy and innovation could bring other co-benefits such as reduced health costs. Global discussions are underway to reach a a universal climate agreement which is due to be signed in Paris in December 2015. This agreement would provide the framework for all nations to contribute towards meeting the 2°C target. However, finance is a sticking point for the negotiations as developing nations seek financial support and a safety net to cover the impacts of climate change.
