This 4th ESG assessment shows the value of sustainable companies outperforms the Korean market both short- and long-term by a significant margin. The performance of a portfolio of leading Korean sustainability companies also outperforms sustainability benchmarks like the KRX SRI and DJSI Korea. However while there has been change, only a few companies have completely integrated long-term sustainability thinking into strategic decision-making and business development frameworks. Additionally Korea’s economy is more energy intensive than the OECD average, requiring stronger efforts to improve resource efficiency to maintain competitiveness in light of its reliance on energy imports and prospective rising energy costs.
