Document summary

Purchasing patterns data reveals those industries contributing most to supply chain water use. Trucost’s environmental profiling modelling identifies water-intensive economic activities - “hot spots” - in supply chains. Audio and video manufacturers in the Nikkei 225 Index could most effectively measure and reduce supply chain water risks by focusing on suppliers of paperboard packing, electron tube and electronic components. In the personal & household goods supersector, water hot spots include farming & fishing, specialty chemicals and steel sectors. Japanese companies accounting for water use in their operations/supply chains will be well placed to strengthen strategies to manage water risks.
