Document summary
This report looks at some of the issues being faced by state and cities authorities in the context of rapid growing urbanisation, issues which need to be addressed to enable timely and efficient delivery of the appropriate environment required. While there is no single solution to the range of challenges facing cities, a coordinated and multidisciplinary approach across development phases is likely to be required in order to achieve successful outcomes which are viable in the long run. As public efforts alone are unlikely to meet all the challenges, private sector's involvement is increasingly needed in terms of both expertise and financial capital. The report also reviews potential sources of financing, stressing that securing finance especially at early development stages when the requirements are the greatest and the level of risk is high is the biggest challenge.
